Family Escape: Marrakesh
5 - Day Itinerary
Start: Marrakech | End: Marrakech, Fes, Ouarzazate or Essaouira
For the curious, the active, and those who want to see the best of Morocco in less than a week.
Day 1
Upon arrival in Marrakech, your private driver will greet you and escort you to a tranquil, family-friendly riad nestled within the medina. Once you’ve settled in, enjoy a gentle introduction to the city with a short walk through the calmer souks and nearby historical sites.
You’ll visit the beautifully tiled Bahia Palace, then escape the buzz with a peaceful stop at Le Jardin Secret or Cyber Park, both great open spaces for kids to stretch their legs. End your day with an optional rooftop tea overlooking the Koutoubia Mosque as the city winds down below.
Overnight in Marrakech
Day 2
Today you’ll venture into the nearby Ourika Valley, a green and scenic retreat just over an hour from the city. You’ll enjoy a guided walk to the Setti Fatma waterfalls, with options for easier trails or donkey rides for younger children. After your hike, visit a local Berber home, where the family will welcome you with mint tea and a hands-on bread-making experience. On the return journey, stop at a women’s argan oil cooperative, where you’ll learn how this famous oil is produced and maybe even see goats climbing trees!
Overnight in Marrakech
Day 3
After breakfast, you’ll head northeast to the majestic Ouzoud Waterfalls, Morocco’s highest and most impressive falls. Walk down the trail together to the base, cross the river by small boat, and enjoy the cool spray of the cascades. Along the way, you’re likely to spot playful monkeys hopping between trees. After a relaxed lunch with a view of the falls, return to Marrakech with an optional scenic stop at a lakeside café or honey farm.
Overnight in Marrakech
Day 4
Say goodbye to the city and head west to the coast, where the relaxed, artistic town of Essaouira awaits. Along the way, stop at an argan grove where goats often climb trees — always a hit with kids! Once in Essaouira, settle into your charming riad near the beach and explore the calm medina together. Walk the ramparts, enjoy a seafood lunch by the port, and let the kids run wild along the beach promenade as the ocean breeze cools the air.
Overnight in Essaouira
Day 5
Today is all about exploring at your own pace. Start with a slow breakfast and walk along the city’s sandy beach. Families can visit the Skala de la Ville fortress, watch artisans carving thuya wood, or enjoy simple pleasures like flying kites or collecting seashells. For those wanting more activity, you can book a family surf lesson, try horseback riding on the beach, or even take a relaxed boat tour.
